BORN BEVERLEY, 1896. SON OF WILLIAM HENRY TAYLOR & JESSIE TAYLOR, AT 4 ST ANDREW’S TERRACE, GILLETT STREET, HULL AND 111 HAVELOCK STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). PRIOR TO THE WAR HE HAD WORKED AS A SAW MILLER, FOR TWO AND HALF YEARS. HE JOINED THE EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, IN HULL, ON 09/05/1914, AGED 18. WAS MOBILIZED ON 05/08/1914, WHEN WAR BEGAN. HOWEVER, HE WENT ABSENT SIX TIMES FROM THE 31/10/1914. EACH TIME LOSING PAY. HE FINALLY DESERTED ON 27/02/1915. HIS WAR SERVICE RECORD IS UNCLEAR AFTER THIS, BUT HE IS LISTED AT THIS ADDRESS IN THE 1918 ABSENT MILITARY VOTERS REGISTER. HE WAS DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT 7 INCHES TALL, 124 LBS WEIGHT, 34 INCH CHEST, BLUE EYES, LIGHT BROWN HAIR, CHURCH OF ENGLAND RELIGION. HE WAS WORKING AS SECOND ENGINEER, ON THE GRIMSBY, FISHING VESSEL, ‘FAWN’, WHEN IT STRUCK A MINE, ON 24/08/1919. HE WAS AGED 23. HIS DEATH IS RECORDED IN THE CWGC NAVAL MEMORIAL REGISTER.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 04/09/1919. IT REPORTED THAT TOM TAYLOR SERVED ON MINESWEEPERS FOR FOUR YEARS AND HAD BEEN DEMOBBED FOR FIVE MONTHS WHEN HE DIED. *
HIS BROTHER, WILLIAM HENRY TAYLOR HAD BEEN KILLED AT SEA, IN 1916.
On 24/08/1919 the Grimsby steam trawler FAWN (GY1008) was posted missing.
