Tindale, Arthur James

Withernsea WW1 Memorial, Queens Street. The memorial was erected in 1923 at a cost of £451, the funds for which were collected through public subscription. A service of dedication was held in 1924. Inscribed in four columns, are the names of sixty-four men killed in World War I.

Born Hull 1890. Son of Caroline & the late James Tindale of 18 Queens Road, Hull (1911 Census) and 18 Suffolk Street, Beverley Road, Hull. Ex Blundell’s worker and Clerk. He enlisted in the “Hull Commercials” pals battalion. Served with the 10th east Yorkshire regiment in Egypt and France. Arrived in France on 08/03/1916. Promoted to Sergeant. Killed in action, on 19/09/1916, aged 26.

He is commemorated on the Loos memorial. He is also remembered on the Withernsea WW1 Memorial.
