BORN HULL 1880. SON OF HENRY & EMILY (SPENCER) TONGE. WIFE HARRIET TONGE LIVED HERE AND 10 SPYVEE TERRACE, SPYVEE STREET. HE WAS AN OIL MILLER UNTIL HE JOINED THE 3RD EYR AT BEVERLEY. HE WAS LAST SEEN BY HIS WIFE ON THE 14TH JUNE WHEN HE LEFT HOME TO RETURN TO CAMP, FROM WHICH HE AS ABSENT FROM LEAVE. IT IS STATED THAT HE HAD BEEN DEPRESSED ON ACCOUNT OF HIS FAILURE TO GET ON AS A SOLDIER. HIS BODY WAS FOUND FLOATING DEAD IN THE WATER BY THE HULL OIL COMPANY’S WHARF, STONEFERRY. AN INQUEST RETURNED THE VERDICT “FOUND DROWNED,” THE HULL SOLDIER’S TRAGIC END WAS TOLD IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 21ST JUNE 1915. BURIED AT HEDON ROAD CEMETERY, EAST HULL.
