BORN HULL DECEMBER 1881. SON OF GEORGE TURNBULL (1851-1917) AND ELIZABETH LINFOOT (1851-1901), OF 18, CAROLINE STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS) AND 29, LOCKWOOD STREET, HULL. HE HAD TWO BROTHERS AND TWO SISTERS. HIS PARENTS WERE DECEASED AND HE LIVED WITH HIS OLDER SISTER MRS ELIZABETH ELLEN BURTON AT 25, CAROLINE STREET, HULL. WORKED AS A MOULDER AND PRESSMAN AT THE BRITISH OIL AND CAKE MILLS.
HE ENLISTED HULL 10/12/1915. LESS THAN 5 FOOT 1 INCH TALL HE WORKED IN MUNITIONS UNTIL 23/02/1916. POSTED TO FRANCE 30/12/1916. SERVED WITHTHE 19TH DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY. SUFFERED FROM DYSENTRY IN MARCH 1917. KILLED IN ACTION 25/08/1917, AGED 35.
HIS PERSONAL EFFECTS WERE RETURNED TO HIS SISTER, ELIZABETH ELLEN, AT 25, CAROLINE STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). THEY INCLUDED HIS IDENTITY DISC, PURSE, A COIN, TOBACCO TIN, POCKET BOOK, PHOTOS AND LETTERS, TWO RAZORS IN A CASE. HE IS BURIED ON THE SOMME.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 13/09/1917. *
