BORN BURNLEY, LANCS, 1874. SON OF JAMES TYMON (1851-1895) AND MARY JANE SHEA. HE HAD SEVEN BROTHERS AND THREE SISTERS.

HE WAS A TOOL MAKER AND PAINTER AND WORKED AS AN ENGINEER’S LABOURER.

WHILE PAINTING TRAWLERS, HE JUMPED INTO HULL FISH DOCK TO SAVE A BOY DROWNING (HULL DAILY MAIL, 08/08/1910).

HE BOARDED AT 7, SYMONS STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS). HE HAD PREVIOUSLY SERVED IN THE 1ST EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 3.5 INCHES TALL, 108 LBS WEIGHT, 35-38 INCH CHEST, GREY EYES, GREY HAIR, NUMEROUS TATTOOS ON BOTH ARMS AND FOREARMS, ROMAN CATHOLIC RELIGION.

MARRIED AT KINGS HALL, FOUNTAIN ROAD, ON 21/08/1914. HUSBAND OF ANNIE WELLS (1874-1934), OF 42, SPENCER STREET, PROSPECT STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS) AND 98, PLANE STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). HE HAD TWO STEP DAUGHTERS, OLIVE AND GERTRUDE.

JAMES ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 18/08/1914. INITIALLY SERVED WITH THE 3RD EYR, BUT WAS DISCHARGED AFTER 140 DAYS, ON 04/01/1915 (HE HAD NO CHEWING TEETH AND OTHER CHRONIC HEALTH PROBLEMS). HE RE-ENLISTED AND SERVED WITH THE 1ST NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS. HE WAS SLIGHTLY WOUNDED AT HOOGE. DIED, ON 16/06/1915, AGED 42. HE WAS KNOWN TO BE ONE OF THE TWELVE MEN KILLED BY A SHELL, MAKING THEIR WAY BACK TO THE DRESSING  STATION.

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, ANNIE.

HIS DEATH A WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 2ND NOVEMBER 1915 BY HIS WIFE, MRS ANNIE TYMON OF 1, FAWCETT TERRACE, DERBY STREET, HULL.

HIS PHOTOGRAPH WAS PUBLISHED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 02/11/1915. *

HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE YPRES MENIN GATE, MEMORIAL, BELGIUM. ALSO RECORDED ON THE WW1 MEMORIAL AT ST CHARLES BORROMEO CHURCH, JARRATT STREET, HULL.
