Uncles, Charles William

Born Thornhill Lees, Yorkshire, 26/09/1881. Son of William Jeremiah Uncles (1855-1911) and Sarah Hannah Uncles (858-936), of “IvyDene”, 55 Wood Lane, Beverley, Yorkshire (CWGC address). One of four sons and a daughter. an Accountant’s Clerk. He served as Company Sergeant Major, 3595. Promoted to Second Lieutenant, in the 4th King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. Was killed at Passchendaele, on 09/10/1917, aged 36. His name is recorded on the Beverley ww1 memorial. A single man. He left £961 to his widowed mother, Sarah Hannah Uncles
His brother, Chief Engineer, George Robert Uncles, was lost at sea, on 23/06/1941, aged 57. Another brother, Howard Uncles, was a ship’s Master and awarded the Distinguished Service Cross. Another brother, William Uncles served in the Royal Air Force, during WW1, and became a clergy man.
