BORN HULL 1895. SON OF ANN MARIA LARTER (1860-1946) & ARTHUR EDWARD WOODS VERTICAN (1859-1937), OF 89 , KENT STREET, HULL (1901 CENSUS), 47, CHURCH STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS) & “EVERSLEIGH”, SUTTON ON HULL. HE HAD TWO BROTHERS, BERNARD AND HARTLEY AND THREE SISTERS, ELSIE, CLARICE AND IVY.
HE WAS A HOLY TRINITY CHOIR BOY AND DRYPOOL SCOUTS MEMBER. JOINED THE EAST RIDING YEOMANRY, IN APRIL 1914. WORKED AS MILLER’S CLERK, FOR RANK LIMITED FLOUR MILLS, HOLDERNESS ROAD, HULL.
HE ENLISTED AT BEVERLEY. FORMERLY, PRIVATE, 1338, EAST RIDING YEOMANRY, POSTED TO EGYPT ON 10/11/1915. SERVED IN THE MIDDLE EAST AND FRANCE. TRANSFERRED WHENT THE ERY AMALGAMATED TO THE 102ND MACHINE GUN COMPANY, IN 1918. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 31/10/1918, AGED 23. BURIED AT THIANT COMMUNAL CEMETERY, NORD, FRANCE.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 13/11/1918.
HIS BROTHER BERNARD VERTICAN, SERVED IN THE ARMY SERVICE CORPS DURING THE WAR.
