BORN HULL 1893. SON OF OCTAVIUS WEBSTER (1862-1931) & MARY EMILY SHAW (1869-1906), OF 14 ROSE TERRACE, ALFRED STREET, HESSLE ROAD, HULL. HE HAD THREE BROTHERS AND A SISTER, ETHEL SMITH.
A CASUAL LABOURER, WORKING IN PONTERFRACT. HE JOINED THE REGULAR ARMY THERE, ON 03/03/1911. DESCRIBED IN HIS ARMY RECORDS, AS 5 FOOT, 8 INCHES TALL, 127 LBS WEIGHT, 35-38 INCH CHEST SIZE., GREY EYES, BROWN HAIR, TATOOS, AND “GOOD” CHARACTER. HE SERVED WITH THE 2ND YORK & LANCS BEFORE THE WAR. REJOINED WHEN WAR BEGAN AND SERVED WITH THE 1ST BATTALION. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 15/01/1915. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 10/04/1915, AGED 22. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR FOUR YEARS AND 39 DAYS.
HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS ELDEST BROTHER, THOMAS STEVENSON WEBSTER. HIS FATHER MOVED TO WITHERNSEA.
HE RESIDED WITH HIS BROTHERS, AT 4 WILFRED’S TERRACE, NORNABELL STREET, HULL (ARMY RECORD’S ADDRESS) AND IS LISTED AS KILLED, ON THE NORNABELL STREET SHRINE. Hull Daily Mail 08 November 1916
