BORN HULL 1885. A HULL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHER. SON OF GEORGE THOMAS WEST (1844-1931) & ANN ELIZABETH GIBSON (1852-1929), OF 19 MIDDLETON STREET, HULL. HIS FATHER WAS AN INSURANCE AGENT AND COLLECTOR. HE HAD FOUR BROTHERS AND ONE SISTER. HIS BROTHER, CLEMENT WAS A CLEGYMAN.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED AS RIFLEMAN, 12935, KING’S ROYAL RIFLE CORPS. WAS COMMISSIONED AS SECOND LIEUTENANT, INTO THE 1ST EAST LANCS REGIMENT. ATTACHED TO THE MACHINE GUN CORPS WHEN HE DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 08/08/1918, AGED 33

HE MARRIED WINIFRED COOPER, AT HULL IN 1918.

WIFE WINIFRED LIVED AT THIS CWGC ADDRESS. HE LEFT £439 IN HIS WILL TO HIS WIDOW AT THIS PROBATE ADDRESS.

HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON THE HYMERS COLLEGE MEMORIAL.

HE IS BURIED AT DIVE COPSE BRITISH CEMETERY, SAILLY-LE-SEC, SOMME, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE, READS, “HE DIED THAT WE MIGHT LIVE”.
