ENLISTED BEVERLEY. A PROFESSIONAL SOLDIER WHEN WAR BEGAN, SERVED AS RIFLEMAN, 2ND KING’S ROYAL RIFLE CORPS. POSTED TO FRANCE WITH THE BRITISH EXPEDITIONARY FORCE, ON 13/08/1914. DIED OF WOUNDS ON 23/10/1914, AGED 23. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE YPRES MEMORIAL, BELGIUM.
UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE DIVIDED BETWEEN HIS SISTERS, ADA, ALICE, MRS EMMA A, MARTIN, MRS NORA HIGHAM, AND BROTHERS, ARTHUR, WALTER, AND ALBERT WEST.
HE WAS REPORTED MISSING IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 11/02/1915. HIS MEDALS WERE UNCLAIMED.
HIS YOUNGER BROTHER, PRIVATE, ARTHUR WEST, 12587, 8TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 09/04/1917, AGED 21. HIS MEDALS WERE LEFT TOHIS SECOND SISTER, MRS EMMA MARTIN, AT 3 BRIGHTON TERRACE, CUMBERLAND STREET, HULL.
