BORN HULL 25/02/1883. FOURTH SON OF EDWARD WILLIAMS & BETSY ANN HOLLINGWORTH, AT 37 PORTLAND STREET, HULL. SON OF A CHEMIST. EDUCATED AT BOULEVARD HIGHER GRADE SCHOOL. HE ENLISTED IN THE ROYAL NAVY IN 1899.

HE MARRIED AGNES WIGHTON, ON 08/09/1910, AT THE BOULEVARD BAPTIST CHURCH. THEY LIVED AT 29, REDBOURNE STREET, HESSLE ROAD, HULL. HE SERVED ON MANY SHIPS. CHIEF YEOMAN OF SIGNALS AND WAS STUDYING TO BE A WARRANT OFFICER WHEN WAR BEGAN. KILLED AT SEA ON 22/09/1914, AGED 31, WHEN HMS ‘CRESSEY’ WAS TORPEDOED.

HE LEFT WIFE, AGNES MARY WILLIAMS, & TWO CHILDREN, CATHERINE AND JOSEPH, ONLY A BABY TWO WEEKS OLD.
HE IS RECORDED ON THE ST MATTHEWS CHURCH WW1 MEMORIAL, HULL, WITH HIS BROTHER IN LAW, JAMES ALBERT WIGHTON, ROYAL NAVY, HMS “GOOD HOPE”, LOST 01/11/1914, AGED 28.

HIS PHOTOGRAPH APPEARS IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 23/09/1914 AND HULL TIMES, ON 14/11/1914. HE IS RECORDED AS LOST ON THE REDBOURNE STREET ROLL OF HONOUR (Hull Daily Mail 13 September 1916)

HIS BROTHER IN LAW, ABLE SEAMAN, JAMES ALBERT FORGAN WIGHTON, RN, WAS SERVING ON HMS ‘GOOD HOPE’ AND KILLED DURING THE SAME ACTION.
