Wood, Thomas Hallam

BORN HULL 19/10/1895. SON OF FREDERICK AUGUSTUS WOOD AND CECILIA AGNES DIWELL, OF 16 VICTORIA VILLAS, SCULCOATES LANE, HULL AND PROVIDENCE VILLAS, HOWDEN DYKE, YORKSHIRE. SERVED AS ABLE SEAMAN, ROYAL NAVY. KILLED BY MINE EXPLOSION IN THE NORTH SEA. AGED 24.

HMS Penarth was a British Royal Navy Paddlesteamer Minesweeper of 800 tons built in 1918 by Lobnitz & Company, Renfrew for the Royal Navy. She was powered by steam, triple expansion engine with Yarrow boilers giving a speed of 16 knots. On the 4th April 1919 having survived the war, she was mined whilst in the course of her duties off the Yorkshire coast. 37 lives were lost.
