BORN HULL 1898. SECOND SON OF JOHN THOMAS & FANNY WRAY AT AT 59. BRIDLINGTON STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). THEY SHARED 62, BRIDLINGTON STREET WITH THE JOHNSON FAMILY AND THERE WERE 13 PEOPLE LIVING THERE (1911 CENSUS). EMPLOYED AS A GROCER’S CLERK.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL. FORMERLY, PRIVATE, 3027 EYR. TRANSFERRED TO THE 8TH BORDER REGIMENT. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 30/05/1917, AGED 19. UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, FANNY. BROTHER TO THOMAS, EDWARD, OLIVE, JOSEPH AND STANLEY.
HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON THE HULL GARDENER SOCIETY MEMORIAL, AT HULL’S HOLY TRINITY MINSTER. ALSO COMMEMORATED AT ST MARYS CHURCH, SCULCOATES LANE, HULL.
HE IS BURIED AT KANDAHAR FARM CEMETERY, WEST-VLAANDEREN, BELGIUM. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION READS, “HE GAVE HIS LIFE THAT WE MIGHT LIVE BELOVED BY ALL”
