He had five brothers and three sisters. He was a Professional Soldier serving with the 1st Lincolnshire regiment (1911 Census).Posted to France on 24th. September 1914. Died Sunday, 22nd July 1917 (Moyenneville & St.Leger (Boyelles). Buried at Duisan British Cemetery, Etrun, France. He was a single man , aged 25. he is commemorated on the Memorial Tablet, Barton Wesleyan Chapel.
