Born Hull 1865. Son of Elizabeth and Walter Henry Palmer, of Hull. Son of a Fisherman. He had two brothers and five sisters.
He became Skipper of the Fishing vessel, “Cruiser”. Lost at sea, on 02/05/1915, aged 48. His widow lived at 77, Regent Quay, Aberdeen.
He is commemorated on the Tower Hill Naval Memorial, London and on Hull’s Hessle Road, Naval Memorial.
“Cruiser”, built by Hall, Russell & Co. Ltd., Aberdeen in 1898 and owned at the time of her loss by T. Devlin Jr., Granton, was a British trawler of 146 tons. On May 2nd, 1915, Cruiser was sunk by gunfire by the German submarine U-41 (Claus Hansen), 50 miles southeast of Aberdeen. 4 persons were lost.
