Born at Stockton-on-the-Forest, York, 1893. Only child of Robert Temple (1861-1930) and Clara Schofield (1869-1895), of 30, Wassand Street, Hessle Road, Hull. Employed as a Rulleyman. Described as 5 foot, 7 inches tall, 36-38.5 inch chest, 143 lbs weight, “Good” physical development.
Enlisted in Hull, on 19/11/1914. Trained at Beverley and Ripon. Served with the Hull Pals, in Egypt and France. Awarded the Military Medal (MM) for bravery, at the Somme in July 1916. Promoted to Sergeant, in the field on 14/11/1916. Killed in action at Oppy Wood, on 02/05/1917, aged 23. Unmarried. His Mother died when he was two and his army effects were left to his widowed father, Robert at 30 Wassand Street, Hull, who wrote to the war office requesting his son’s Military Medal.
Buried in France. His War Grave, reads, “HE GAVE HIS LIFE FOR THOSE HE LOVED”
