BORN HULL 1894. SON OF JOSEPH SAMUEL ANDREWS & KATE ANDREWS, OF 3 HOLMES STREET, WATERLOO STREET, HULL. ONE OF THREE SONS. BROTHERS, HERBERT AND WILFRED. A FORMER BLUNDELL’S PAINT WORKER, WHERE HE WAS VERY POPULAR WITH HIS FELLOW WORKERS. HE ENLISTED IN HULL ON 16/11/1914. SERVED AS COMPANY QUARTERMASTER SERGEANT, 13/5, IN THE 13TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT (HULL SPORTSMAN PALS BATTALION. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT 10 INCHES TALL, 38 INCH CHEST, 150 LBS WEIGHT AND OF “GOOD” PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT. HE SERVED IN EGYPT IN 1915. ARRIVED IN FRANCE ON 07/03/1916. HE WAS KILLED IN FRANCE, ON 26/08/1916, AGED 22. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR 1 YEAR AND 295 DAYS.
HE WAS BURIED ATÂ LE TOURET MILITARY CEMETERY, RICHEBOURG-L’AVOUE. HIS BROTHER AND COUSIN WHO SERVED IN THE SAME REGIMENT ATTENDED HIS FUNERAL. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “WHEN THE ROLL IS CALLED UP YONDER I’LL BE THERE”
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 06/09/1916, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
