BORN HULL 1894. SON OF BELLARS BUTLER (1856-1928) & ELIZABETH BARWELL (1870-1950), OF 10, TORRINGTON STREET, HULL AND 26, MARSHALL STREET, NEWLAND AVENUE, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESSES). HE HAD TWO BROTHERS AND THREE SISTERS.

WORKED AS A HULL DOCK, CRANE DRIVER, FOR THREE YEARS, BEFORE THE WAR AND LIVED AT 8, BEACONSFIELD GARDENS, RAGLAN STREET, HULL.

HE ENLISTED IN THE EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT AT THE START OF THE WAR. TRANSFERRED TO THE MACHINE GUN CORPS. PROMOTED TO SERGEANT. AWARDED THE MILITARY MEDAL. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 23/04/1917, AGED 22.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON THE 14TH JULY 1917, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *

HE IS COMMEMORATED AT THE ARRAS MEMORIAL, FRANCE AND AT ST JOHN CHURCH, NEWLANDS, CLOUGH ROAD, HULL.

HIS SITER ELIZABETH, DIED AT HULL IN 1918, AGED 27.
