BORN HULL 1885. SON OF JOHN HENRY & ELIZA, OF 104, ADELAIDE STREET, HULL. ENLISTED HULL. SERVED FOR SEVEN YEARS AS A SOLDIER WITH THE 1ST EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 08/09/1914. HE WAS KILLED AT YPRES, ON 21/09/1915, AGED 28. (HDM 19/08/1918). HE IS BURIED AT WHITE HOUSE CEMETERY, ST. JEAN-LES-YPRES, BELGIUM.
HE LEFT A WIDOW, & CHILD, AT 23 QUEENSGATE, BEVERLEY. (HDM 07/10/1915) AND 4 AT JAMES SQUARE, JAMES STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). HE MARRIED IN 1914. HIS WIFE, CONSTANCE MARION KILPATRICK, CAME FROM A MILITARY FAMILY HERSELF AND HAD ALREADY LOST HER FATHER AND TWO BROTHERS IN THE WAR.

“Mrs Camplin of Pape’s Yard, Keldgate, Beverley received official intimation on Sunday last of the death of her husband, Pte. John Camplin of the 1st East Yorkshire Regiment. This young widow who is left with one child is the eldest daughter of Mrs Kilpatrick who resides at 23 Queensgate, Beverley. Pte. Camplin, who was only 28 years of age, had served seven years in the army, and acted for some time as rook for the Offices mess at the Victoria Barracks.
He accompanied his Battalion to France in August 1914. After having had twelve months experience at the front, he was allowed a few days leave, which he spent at his home in Beverley. It was only three weeks after his return to action that he received his fatal injuries. (BG, Saturday 9th October 1915)
