BORN HULL 1883 SECOND SON OF GEORGE CHURCH (1848-1904) & ADA HUTCHINSON (1854-1923) OF 113 ROSAMOND STREET, HESSLE ROAD, HULL. A BRICKLAYER. HE MARRIED LILIAN AGNES CHAMBERS (1885-1918), AT HULL, IN JULY 1910. THEY LIVED AT 22 HAMPSHIRE STREET, HULL, WITH THEIR TWO SONS, WILLIAM (1911-1974) AND FRANK (BORN 1915).
HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED AS PRIVATE, 3355 & 200996, 1/4TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 27/06/1915. HE WAS KILLED AT FLERS-COURCELETTE, ON 16/11/1916. AGED 32. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL.
HIS NAME WAS RECORDED IN THE ST BARNABAS BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE.
HIS ONLY BROTHER, GEORGE CHURCH, SERVED IN THE ROYAL ENGINEERS, AND LIVED AT 12 FREDERICK CRESCENT, HAWTHORNE AVENUE, HULL.
WILLIAM CHURCH IS PICTURED HERE WITH HIS WIFE AND SON. HIS WIFE MOVED TO 113 ROSAMOND STREET, HESSLE ROAD, HULL (PENSION LEDGER ADDRESS). SHE DIED ON 24/11/1918 AND HER BOYS WERE TAKEN INTO CARE. THE WAR PENSION GIVEN TO THE GUARDIAN, J.T. CHAMBERS.
