BORN NEWTON HILL, WRENTHORPE, WAKEFIELD, 03/10/1879. SON OF WILLIAM COX (1851-1943) AND LEAH COX (1851-1921).

SON OF A TAILOR. ONE OF EIGHT CHILDREN.

HE WORKED AS A LABOURER. HE MARRIED ANNIE KERSHAW (1881-1954) IN WEST PARADE CHAPEL, WAKEFIELD, ON 02/11/1907. HIS WIFE ANNIE AND DAUGHTER, GLADYS (909-1986), LIVED AT 7 BETHEL PLACE, THORNES LANE, WAKEFIELD (WAR PENSION ADDRESS).

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. PROMOTED TO SERGEANT, 47988, ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY. AWARDED THE MILITARY MEDAL (MM) FOR BRAVERY. HE DIED OF WOUNDS, AT POPERINGE, ON 29/07/1917, AGED 38.

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, ANNIE WOODCOCK.
HE IS BURIED AT GODEWAERSVELDE BRITISH CEMETERY AND WAKEFIELD ROLL OF HONOUR.
