Dannatt, Arthur Richard

Private, Arthur Richard Dannatt, 1/4th EYR,, killed at the Somme, on 24th September 1916, aged 23.

BORN HULL 11/10/1892. SON OF ALBERT DANNATT (1864-1939) & MARY JANE ROWBOTTOM (1861-1928), OF 68 YORK STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). ONE OF TEN CHILDREN AND SIX SONS WHO SERVED IN THE WAR, TWO OF WHICH WERE KILLED.

ARTHUR RICHARD DANNATT WAS A FORMER SISSON’S WORKER, AT STONEFERRY. HE WAS ONE OF SIX SONS TO ENLIST. HIS BROTHER, JOHN WILLIAM DANNATT PLAYED FOR HULL KINGSTON ROVERS RUGBY LEAGUE SIDE.
ARTHUR MARRIED AMY ESTHER WILSON ON 24/05/1913 & HAD TWO CHILDREN (AMY BORN 10/8/13 & ARTHUR RICHARD, BORN 13/2/16). THEY LIVED AT 33 CUMBERLAND STREET, HULL AND 10, VICEROY TERRACE, LORNE STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). HE NEVER SAW ONE OF HIS CHILDREN WHO WAS ONLY EIGHT MONTHS OLD. HE SERVED AS PRIVATE, 2397, 1/4TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. HE WAS KILLED ON THE SOMME, ON 24/09/1916, AGED 23.

HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING. HIS NAME WAS RECORDED ON THE KINGS HALL CHURCH MEMORIAL, SYMONS STREET. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 18TH OCTOBER 1916, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH.* HIS DEATH WAS ALSO REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 16TH NOVEMBER 1916, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. * HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, AMY.
HIS BROTHER, BOMBARDIER, CHARLES HENRY DANNATT, 65991, ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY, WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 16/10/1918, AGED 27. CHARLES HAD SERVED IN INDIA AND WAS POSTED TO FRANCE WITH THE INDIAN EXPEDITIONARY FORCE AND ALSO SERVED IN MESOPOTANIA.

HIS OTHER BROTHERS, WERE, GUNNER, JOHN WILLIAM DANNATT (1887–1963) , ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY AND A RUGBY LEAGUE FORWARD FOR HULL KINGSTON ROVERS.; JAMES ALBERT DANNATT (1889-1963), EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT; AND GEORGE EDWARD DANNATT (1896-1971), EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT.
