BORN NEWINGTON, HULL, 31/01/1894. SON OF JAMES HERBERT DIXON (1857-1905) AND ALMA JACKSON (1856- 1916). BOTH PARENTS DIED BETWEEN 1905-1906. ONE OF EIGHT CHILDREN. HE HAD FOUR BROTHERS AND THREE SISTERS. HE LIVED WITH HIS SISTER, MRS ELSIE BATHCHELER, AT 14, RUSSELL TERRACE, BEAN STREET, HULL (NAVAL ADDRESS). HE WORKED AS A TAILOR’S ERRAND BOY (1911 CENSUS).
HE ENLISTED AT YORK, ON 24/09/1914. EMBARKED WITH THE ROYAL MARINE BRIGADE, ON 03/12/1914. LEFT FOR THE DARDENELLES, 28/02/1915. KILLED IN ACTION AT GALLIPOLI, ON 13/07/1915, AGED 21.
COMMEMORATED AT HELLES MEMORIAL, TURKEY. HIS NEXT OF KIN, WAS HIS SISTER, ELSIE BATCHELOR, OF 14, RUSSELL TERRACE, BEAN STREET (NAVY RECORDS).
HIS NAME IS LISTED ON ST MATTHEWS CHURCH, BOULEVARD, WITH ELSIE’S HUSBAND, JAMES ARTHUR BATCHELOR, WHO WAS KILLED IN ACTION ON 27/2/1917, AGED 27.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE ‘HULL TIMES’, ON THE 14TH AUGUST 1915, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
HE IS ALSO RECORDED ON THE BEAN STREET ROLL OF HONOUR (Hull Daily Mail 11 October 1916).
