BORN HULL 1893. SON OF LAURA MARIA HANSON (1856-1943) & HENRY HARDMAN HANSON (1839-1908), OF 81 WESTBOURNE AVENUE, HULL (1901 CENSUS) AND 147 CHANTERLANDS AVENUE, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). SON OF A SEED & GRAIN MERCHANT, TO RUSSIA.. HE HAD ONE BROTHER AND FOUR SISTERS. EDUCATED AT HULL’S HYMER COLLEGE, HULL. AN INLAND REVENUE CIVIL SERVANT. HE ALSO WORKED FOR THE IDEAL BOILER COMPANY.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL, IN DECEMBER 1915. GAZETTED AS LIEUTENANT, IN THE ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY. HE HAD BEEN IN FRANCE FOR NINE MONTHS. DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 15/09/1917, AGED 24. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 18/09/1917. *
HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON HYMERS COLLEGE WAR MEMORIAL AND HE IS COMMEMORATED ON A PLAQUE AT HULL MINSTER CHURCH. HIS NAME IS LISTED WITH 46 EMPLOYEES, ON HULL’S IDEAL BOILER AND RADIATOR LIMITED, WW1 MEMORIAL, NATIONAL AVENUE, HULL.
HE WAS BURIED AT MENDINGHEM MILITARY CEMETERY, BELGIUM. HIS GRAVE READS, “FAITHFUL UNTO DEATH”.
HIS ONLY BROTHER, HENRY ERNEST HANSON WAS ON THE STAFF OF THE AMERICAN READIATOR COMPANY. SERVED AS A MAJOR IN THE ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY, SURVIVED THE WAR AND WAS AWARDED THE DISTINGUISHED SERVICE ORDER.
