BORN HULL 1893. SON OF WALTER JOHN HARDY & ALICE MAUD HARDY, OF 20, PROVIDENCE ROW, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). A FORMER RECKITT’S WORKER. HE JOINED RECKITT’S, ON 05/09/1913. HE ALSO PLAYED FOOTBALL FOR THE OLD CLIFTONIANS. HE ENLISTED IN AUGUST 1914. ORIGINALLY SERVED WITH THE 1/4TH EAST YORKSHIRES IN FRANCE IN 1915, WOUNDED AND SENT HOME WITH TRENCH FEVER. HE TRANSFERRED TO THE 6TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. WOUNDED JULY 1916. HE DIED OF WOUNDS ON 17/07/1917, AGED 25. HE WAS AWARDED THE MILITARY MEDAL (MM), FOR FIRING HIS LEWIS GUN, DURING A HEAVY BOMBARDMENT. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 09/08/1917 AND 17/08/1917.
HE IS BURIED AT ACHIET-LE-GRAND COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION, PAS DE CCALAIS, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “FAITHFUL UNTO DEATH”.
