BORN HULL 1893. ELDEST SON OF WILLIAM & MARIA RUFFORD JOHNSON, AT 17 MARY’S TERRACE, ALEXANDRA STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION & CWGC ADDRESS). HE WAS A FORMER CARRIAGE CLEANER WITH THE NORTH EASTERN RAILWAYS, IN HULL.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 10/12/1915. SERVED WITH THE 10TH KINGS OWN YORKSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY. KILLED IN ACTION, ON THE 1ST JULY 1916, AGED 23. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, SOMME, FRANCE, TO THE MISSING KILLED AT THE SOMME.
HE LEFT A BROTHER, ERNEST LEOPOLD JOHNSON AND SISTERS, ALICE AND CLARA.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 26/07/1916.
