BORN HULL 1894. SON OF THE LATE ALFRED ERNEST COOK & THE LATE ANN COOK. HIS WIFE MARY ANN AND DAUGHTER IVY (BORN 24/01/1917) LIVED AT 88 & 93 CLIFTON TERRACE, DAY STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). HE WORKED AT THE CITY WINDOW CLEANING COMPANY, BASED IN BOND STREET. HE ENLISTED HULL, ON O7/06/1915. EX 4331, 2/4TH EYR. HE WAS DESCRIBED IN HIS ARMY RECORDS AS 5 FOOT 4 INCHES TALL, 35 INCH CHEST. APPOINTED L/CORPORAL ON 6/11/1915. TRANSFERRED TO THE 1ST BORDER REGIMENT ON 2/07/1916. SENT TO FRANC ON 13/07/1916. WOUNDED IN THE HANDS ON 16/09/1916, AND INVALIDED HOME. ARRIVED FRANCE FOR A SECOND TIME, ON 25/01/1917. KILLED IN ACTION ON 31/07/1917, AGED 23. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WHICH INCLUDED AN ID DISC, POCKET BOOK AND BIBLE WERE RETURNED TO HIS WIDOW. SHE WAS AWARDED A WEEKLY WAR PENSION OF 18 SHILLINGS AND NINE PENCE AND MOVED TO 83 CLIFTON TERRACE, GOODWIN STREET, HULL. HIS NAME WAS RECORDED ON THE WAR MEMORIAL AT ST THOMAS CHURCH, CAMPBELL STREET, WHICH WAS DESTROYED IN AN AIR RAID DURING WW2.
