BORN HULL 1892. YOUNGEST SON OF DR. JOHN WRIGHT MASON, MBE, (1853-1930) & ANNIE MASON (1853-1928), OF 117, BEVERLEY ROAD, HULL. ONE OF FIVE SONS SERVING. SON OF A MEDICAL OFFICER.
HE MARRIED IN HULL, IN 1917. HUSBAND OF ALICE EMILY UNDERWOOD, AT 2, STAFFORD STREET, HULL & 78, BEVERLEY ROAD, HULL.
HE ENLISTED AS A CORPORAL IN THE 3/5TH ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY, NORTHUMBRIAN BRIGADE. COMMISSIONED AS CAPTAIN AND THEN ACTING MAJOR, ATTACHED TO THE ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY, ROYAL NAVAL DIVISION, AMMUNITION COLUMN. POSTED TO FRANCE ON 01/07/1916. HE WAS AWARDED THE MILITARY CROSS (MC) FOR BRAVERY (LONDON GAZETTE – 4TH JUNE 1915).
HE ACCIDENTALLY DIED ON 13TH SEPTEMBER 1918, AGED 26. HE HAD BEEN MARRIED TWELVE MONTHS.
HE IS COMMEMORATED ON HULL’S HOLY TRINITY CHAPEL WINDOW & LISTED ON HULL’S HYMER SCHOOL ROLL OF HONOUR.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 19/09/1918. *
HE LEFT £413 IN HIS WILL TO HIS HIS WIDOW, ALICE, AND IS BURIED AT BEAULENCOURT BRITISH CEMETERY, LIGNY-THILLOY, FRANCE.
HE LEFT SIBLINGS, CECIL WRIGHT (DISCHARGED FROM THE ARMY WITH RHEUMATISM), VIOLET MARY MASON, LIEUTENANT, PERCY REGINALD MASON, RFA, LIEUTENANT, ALGERNON MONTAGUE MASON (DISCHARGED FROM THE ARMY WITH A WOUNDED LEG), AND DOCTOR, HAROLD VICTOR MASON, A MAJOR WITH THE ROYAL ARMY MEDICAL CORPS, WHO ALSO RECEIVED THE MILITARY CROSS. VICTOR WAS WOUNDED IN THE MARCH 1918 OFFENSIVE, HAD A LEG AMPUTATED AND LOST THE USE OF HIS ARM, BUT RETURNED TO ENGLAND
