BORN HULL 1886. SON OF JAMES HARDY & STELLA PETCH, OF 10 LAUREL GROVE, ETON STREET, HULL. HE WORKED FOR THE NORTH EASTERN RAILWASY AT HULL DOCK.. LIVING AT 34 CHILTERN STREET. ALSO A FORMER RESERVIST WHO HAD SERVED SIX YEARS IN INDIA. HE REJOINED THE 1ST EAST YORKSHIRE BATTALION, AT THE OUTBREAK OF WAR. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 09/08/1915, AGED 28.
HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE MENIN GATE MEMORIAL AT YPRES, TO THE MISSING. HIS NAME IS LISTED ON THE ETON STREET MEMORIAL AND ON CHILTERN STREET ROLL OF HONOUR.
HIS DEATH AND PHOTOGRAPH WERE REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 18TH AUGUST 1915, AND THE HULL TIMES, ON 21ST AUGUST 1915. *
