Turley, Francis Joseph

Corporal, Francis (Frank) Joseph Turley,”B” Coy. 13th Bn. East Yorkshire Regiment, killed 13th November 1916, aged 34.

BORN BELFAST 1882. BEFORE THE WAR HE WORKED AT THE ROBSON CEMENT FACTORY, STONEFERRY, HULL FOR  A NUMBER OF YEARS.

HE ENLISTED IN NOVEMBER 1914 AND WAS “WAS MOST ANXIOUS TO SERVE HIS COUNTRY.” HE LEFT WIFE FLORENCE MAY TURLEY & SIX CHILDREN, THE YOUNGEST ONLY 2 YEARS OLD, AT 9 BEAUMONT AVENUE, BEAUMONT STREET, HULL (HDM ADDRESS 01/09/1917). PRIOR TO THE WAR HE WAS A BRICKLAYER FOR ROBSON’S CEMENT WORKS, STONEFERRY, HULL. HIS PARENTS ROBERT & ELIZA LIVED IN BELFAST. SERVED IN “B” COMPANY, 13TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT (HULL PALS BATTALION). KILLED AT SERRE, ON 13/11/1916, AGED 34.

HE IS BURIED AT QUEENS CEMETERY, PUISIEUX, PAS DE CALAIS, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION READS, “LOVED, HONOURED AND REMEMBERED BY HIS LOVING WIFE AND SIX CHILDREN”

HIS WAS REPORTED MISSING IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 4TH DECEMBER 1916, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH.*
FRANK TURLEY’S DEATH WAS CONFIRMED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 1ST SEPTEMBER 1917 ALONG WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
