Born Hull 1895. Son of Rachel Crann (1869-1923) and Sam Clark, of Hull and Leeds. He had two brothers and one sister. A Hairdresser.

Enlisted Leeds. Served as a Fitter Corporal in the 310th Royal Field Artillery. Awarded the Military Medal (MM) for bravery. Died of wounds, on 11/05/1917, aged 22. at the 45th Casualty Clearing Station. Buried in France. His army effects were left to his father, Sam at 10 William Terrace, Woodhouse Street, Hull (1901 Census) and 22 Berkeley Avenue, Harehill, Leeds.
