He enlisted in Hull. Served as Driver, 2036, in the 251st Royal Field Artillery. Killed in action, by a shell, on 16/09/1916. He left his unmarried wife, Emma Ayer, at 41 South Boulevard, Hull (Pension Ledger Address). She later moved to 613 Spring Bank West, Hull.
His death was reported in the Hull daily Mail, on 25/09/1916. *
