Born Apr 1898 at Micklefield, Yorkshire West Riding. Son of Frederick William Ireland (1862-1898) and Lettie Roberts (1870-1936). A farm boy, working at Thornton Allerthorpe, Yorkshire (1911 Census). He had two brothers and two sisters.
He enlisted at Pontefract. Served with the 10th King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. Killed at Loos, on 27/09/1915, aged 17. His army effects were left to his mother Lettie.
