Scaife, Sydney

Born Pocklington, 1891. Son of Mrs. Eliza and Thomas Scaife, of 52, Chapmargate, Pocklington, East Yorkshire. He had four brothers and three sisters.

Worked as Waggoner (farm), at Nunburnholme Station York (1911 Census).

Unofficial Husband of Elizabeth Shaw. Guardian of their child, who lived at Calder’s Cottage, Queens Street, Hull (War Pension Address).

He enlisted at Pocklington. Served with the 13th Northumberland Fusilier. Killed in action, on 22/11/1916, aged 26. Buried in France.

His army effects were left to his mother, Eliza.

His eldest brother, Private, Christopher Thomas Scaife, 205454, 1/4th EYR was taken prisoner during the war. His second eldest brother, Bertie Scaife, served as 2208, with the 5th Yorkshire Regiment
