He enlisted in Hull. Formerly 14/85, East Yorkshire Regiment. Transferred to Pioneer, with the 2nd Bn. Special Bde., Royal Engineers. Accidentally shot whilst on active service. Died of wounds, on 16/08/1916, aged 27, at No: 6 Casualty Clearing Station. Buried in France.
