Born Barnsley, Yorkshire, 1884. He had resided at 2, Ethel Grove Barnsley (army address). Married at Hull in 1903.

Husband of Jane Middleton, of 163, St Paul Street, Hull (War pension Address). They had one daughter, Ethel May born 1st April 1916.

He enlisted in Hull, on 15/10/1914. Formerly 2754, East Yorkshire Regiment. Transferred to the 10th Durham Light Infantry, on 23/10/1916. Killed in action, on 16/10/1917. Commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium.

All his army effects were left to his widow, Jane. She quickly remarried a civilian, on 30/12/1917 and her pension was reduced.
