Nightingale, Joseph Walter

Born Brentwood, Essex, 1882. Son of George and Emma Nightingale, of Nags Head Lane, Brook Street, Brentwood. He had three brothers (who also served in the war) and a sister.

He was unmarried. Worked as a Farm, Cow man at Molescroft, Beverley Yorkshire (1911 Census). Then worked as an Oil Miller Labourer, living at 18, Grimston Street, Hull (Army Address). Described as 5 foot, 5 inches tall, 140 lbs weight, 35-37 inch chest, good physical development.

He enlisted at Hull, on 30th Dec 1915. Posted to France, on 22/07/1916. Served with the 7th East Yorkshire Regiment. Taken prisoner. Died on 15/01/1917, aged 35. Buried in France.

His army effects were left to his father George.
