Born Padbury, Buckinghamshire, 1885. He had one brother, John William dell, who lived at 40, Sherburn Street, Hull and 10 Workington Avenue, Nornabell Street, Holderness Road, Hull

He lived with his sister in Law, Alice Dell, at 11, Workington Avenue, Nornabell Street, Hull (War Pension address) and 56, Crowl Street, Hull. A Lighterman for the Hull & Barnsley Railways. Described as 5 foot 7.5 inches tall, 135 lbs weight, 36-39.5 inch chest, blue eyes, light brown hair.

He enlisted in The Hull Pals on 8th September 1914. Trained at Withernsea. Served with the 11th East Yorkshire in Egypt and France. Wounded in the right knee on 30th May 1916. Transferred to the 8th East Yorkshire Regiment. Killed in action, on 17/03/1917, aged 32. Buried at Arras, France.
