Born Beeford, Driffield, 1896. Son of David and Harriet Lile, of Main Street, Beeford, Driffield, Yorkshire (CWGC address). Horselad On Farm, at Little Kelk Lowthorpe, Yorks (1911 census).

He enlisted in Hull. Served as Gunner, “B” Bty. 71st Bde., Royal Field Artillery. Killed in action on 24/04/1917, aged 21. Buried at Feuchy Chapel, France. His grave reads, THEIR GLORY SHALL NOT BE BLOTTED OUT. His army effects were left to both parents.
