Born Preston, Lancashire. Son of Alfred and Margaret Barker, of 98, Eccleston Street, St. Helens, Lancashire (CWGC address). He was a Tramway Driver (1911 Census) and shop assistant (Army records).

He enlisted in Hull, on 7th September 1914. Formerly 242, 11th East Yorkshire Regiment. Served in Egypt and France. Awarded the Military Medal (M.M.). Transferred to the 31st Bn,. Machine Gun Corps (Infantry), on 28th August 1916. Killed in action, on 12/04/1918, aged 29. His army effects were left to his mother. Margaret.
