He enlisted in Hull. Formerly 19351, Notts and Derby Regiment. Transferred to the Machine Gun Corps (Infantry), 33rd Bn. Attached to the 59th Div. H.Q. formerly (19351) 9th Bn. Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derby Regiment). He died of wounds, on 19/02/1918, aged 48.

Buried in France. His grave reads, WELL DONE THOU GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANT THE FIGHT IS O’ER THE CROWN IS WON.
