Born York, 1886. He married Gertrude McGowan, at St Saviours Church Wilmington, on 2nd September 1911. they had one son, Robert William, on 10th June 1912.

He enlisted at Beverley, on 24/06/1916. Called up for service, on 01/11/1916. Served as a Private in the East Yorkshire regiment and 2/5th Scottish Rifles. Discharged on 17/08/1917. Died after discharge on 19/03/1919. His widow, Gertrude, lived at 31, James Reckitt Avenue, Garden Village, Hull (War Pension records)
