Needham, John

Born 1870. Married 1916. Husband of Emily Townsend, of 7, Eliza’s Terrace, Campbell Street, Hull (War Pension address).

He was a Stevedore for Thomas Wilson & sons, Shipping line, Hull, for 20 years. Member of the General Docker’s Union.

Joined the East Riding RGA Territorial Volunteers, from May 1897 to April 1908. He joined the Territorial Regular Field Artillery, the on 1st April 1908. Awarded the Egyptian and Efficiency Medals. Was time expired and mobilized when war began

Served as a Sergeant, in the Royal Field Artillery, 2nd Northumbrian Brigade. Discharged on 30 May 1917, after 9 years and 60 days service. Died of cancer on 18/02/1920, aged 49.
