Born Harwich, Essex, 1891. Son of Charles and Isabel Mealing, of Harwich, Essex. His mother Isabella Ramsey, moved to 2, Brighton Terrace, Hall Street, Hull (War Pension address).
A Labourer. Described as 5 foot, 6.5 inches tall, 136 lbs weight, 34-37 inch chest, blue eyes, dark brown hair, Church of England religion. He had joined the army in 1907 and previously served with the Lincolnshire Regiment, in Singapore.
Enlisted at Harwich. Formerly 8297, Lincs. Regiment. Served as Sergeant, in the 1st Border Regiment. Posted to Gallipoli, on 10/10/1915, where he was promoted to Actin Company Sergeant <ajor. Killed on 01/07/1916, aged 25. Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
His army effects were left to his brothers, Alfred, Claude, Wilfred and Frank and sisters, Minnie Chalfield, Olive E, Scammell.
