Nicholas Campbell, RNR

Born 16 Mar 1873 • Monk Wearmouth Shore, Durham. Son of William Campbell (1846-1890) and Margaret Duggan (1846-1909).

Described as Height 6′ 2″, Complexion- Fair, Colour of eyes – Grey, Chest 36″

Worked as a Boiler smith, in Sunderland, aged 18 (1891).

Married on 17 Aug 1898 • Scarborough. Husband of Mary Ann Wallace (1879-1928). They had eight children.

Worked in Scarborough as a Police Officer, aged 28, (1901).

Moved to Hull in 1910 and worked as a Dock Labourer. Lived at 132 English Street, Hull (1911 Census) and 133, Porter Street, Hull (War Pension address).

Enlisted on 6 Sep 1916 • Hull , East Yorkshire. Served as Royal Naval Reserve, TS 5928. and as Trimmer, on HMS “Rainstorm”.

13 Sep 1917 • Cork,Prison, Ireland – Naval Court Martial : Sentenced to 35 days imprisonment for ” Drunkenness , Insulting and threatening Language “. HM Naval Base Berehaven. Weight on admission to Prison 168 lb Weight on discharge 159 lb. Height 6′ 2” Varicose veins to Left Calf and Shin.

16 Apr 1919 • South Shields Durham – Discharge from RNR service, Awarded British War Medal & Victory medal.

Died on 26 Jul 1920 • 133 Porter Street Hull  1) Chronic gastritis 2)Pneumonia (No post mortem). Buried Hedon Road Cemetery, Compartment 387 Grave 35
