Elvidge, Alfred

Born Doncaster, 1888. Son of George & Mary Elvidge, of 40, Cunningham Road., Doncaster. Son of a general Carter. He had six brothers and three sisters.

Enlisted at Doncaster. He was an army Corporal in 1911. Promoted to CSM in the York and Lancaster Regiment, “C” Coy.1st Bn. Killed in action, on 28 Feb 1915, aged 26.

Commemorated on the Ypres Menin Gate Memorial, Belgium.

Husband of Florence Mary Elvidge, of 20, Ella Street, Hull (CWGC address). His army effects and war pension were left to his widow, Florence.

His youngest brother, Acting Corporal, Frank Valle Elvidge, 145159, Royal Engineers, was killed in action, on 3rd January 1918, aged 23.
