Strang, John

Born Falkirk, Scotland 1896. Youngest child of William and Christina Strang, of 11A, De Grey Street, Beverley Road, Hull (CWGC and War Pension address). Both his parents were born in Falkirk. His father was an Iron Moulder who came to Hull for work.

He had two brothers and three sisters. He worked as a wood sawyer. Described as 5 foot, 9.5 inches tall, 37 inch chest, blue eyes, reddish hair, Presbyterian religion.

Enlisted at Falkirk, Stirling, on 09/09/1914. Posted to France, on 09/07/1915. Promoted Corporal on 01/10/1915. Promoted Sergeant, on 24/02/1916. Mentioned in Despatches, (London Gazette, 15/06/1916). Served as Acting Sergeant, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, “B” Coy. 11th Bn. Killed in action, on 15/09/1916, aged 22.
