Born Doncaster, 1895. Son of Mary Ann Baker, of 142, Carr House Road, Doncaster, and the late Harry Baker. Siblings Fanny and Leonard. His next of kin was his brother, Leonard Baker (1892-1965), at 3, Welwyn Park Road, Beverley High Road, Hull (War pension address). He was a pony driber at Cadeby Pitt.
Enlisted at Doncaster. Served as sergeant, King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, “C” Coy. 8th Bn. Killed in action on 1st July 1916, aged 21. His army effects were left to his mother, Mary Ann.
Buried at BLIGHTY VALLEY CEMETERY, AUTHUILLE WOOD, FRANCE. His grave inscription reads, FOR EVER WITH THE LORD.
His brother, Leonard, served in the Army Service Corps, during WW1.
