Campbell, Hugh Fraser

Born Edinburgh, 1887, Son of the late David and Mary Fraser Campbell, of 9, Arthur Street, Edinburgh.

He enlisted at Edinburgh on 2/9/1904. Described in his army records, as 5 foot, 6.5 inches tall, 124 lbs weight, 35-37 inch chest, grey eyes, light brown hair, tattoos, scar across right forearm, Presbyterian religion.

His unmarried wife was Miss Ethel Bragg, of 49, Colonial Street, Hull and 19, Charlotte Terrace, Clarendon Street, Hull (War Pension address).

A professional Soldier with ten years service. He left England with the British Expeditionary Force, in August 1914. Served with the 2nd Highland Light Infantry. Died of wounds, on 27/10/1914, aged 28. He is commemorated on the Ypres, Menin Gate Memorial, Belgium. His widow received a weekly war pension of 10 shillings on 9th November 1916, some two years after his death.

His army effects were left to his mother Mary, and siblings, David, Robert, Eleanor and William.
