Robinson, Charles

Born Hull, 1875. Son of Joseph Robinson (1837-1908) and Ann Buckler (1838-1918). He had six brothers and two sisters.

A former soldier with 12 years service. Enlisted on 24 May 1895. In civilian life he worked in Hull as an Oil Miller. Described as 5 foot, 6.5 inches tall, 120 lbs weight, 36.5-38 inch chest, grey eyes, brown hair, extensive tattoos all over body, Church of England religion.

Married at St Philips, Hull, on 17 Sept 1910. Husband of Ada Lyon (1894-1971), of 5, Church Row, Cleveland Street, Hull; 2, Duncan Street, Jennings Street, Hull and 19, Clifton Terrace, Day Street, Hull (Army addresses). They had five children, and included two sons both named Charles that died in infancy, in 1914 and 1917 respectively.

In 1911, he is living with wife and daughter Elizabeth (7 weeks old) at 10 Alice Buildings, James Street, Hull. Working as a dock labourer.

In 1912 – Signed up for 4 years as an Army reserve with The Lincolnshire Regiment. Occupation at the time was listed as an oil miller.

Enlisted 1 May 1915. Posted to France, on 25 Sept 1914. Served in the 7th Lincolnshire Regiment and the 1st & 8th East Yorkshire Regiments (Trench Mortar Battery). Docked pay eight times for absences – which may have been due to his home life and death of children). Wounded and posted to France twice. Discharged on 12 Feb 1919.

In 1921 – Boarding with Son Frank and brother Henry, at 5 Duncan Street, Sculcoates, Hull. Both him and brother are out of work dock labourers.

Died on 15/03/1924, aged 48. His children were motherless and taken into care by the Sculcoates Board of Guardians, Hull (War pension records).
